Two Ways to Talk About Discipline (Only One Sticks)
·773 words·4 mins
There’s a version of discipline that sounds like a locker-room speech. Stop negotiating with yourself. Push through the first thirty days. Raise your standards, seek out discomfort, speak only in absolutes. It’s loud, it’s stirring, and for about a week it works. Then there’s a quieter version. Start with five minutes of exercise. Stack a new habit onto one you already have. Delay the temptation ten minutes and let the urge pass on its own. Less inspiring to listen to. Much more likely to still be true of you in March.
